Thai fusion cuisine – Lemongrass Restaurant

I went to a Thai fusion restaurant called Lemongrass for lunch the other day. I had been here once before but that was 2 or 2.5 years ago. I didn’t really like the food when I was here last time so I hadn’t gone back.

Last week, since I was in the neighbourhood, I thought I would give it another try. To all vegans and vegetarians out there, this restaurant isn’t very vegan/vegetarian-friendly. They have this dish called “Vegan and Zen” on their menu and you would think that it is vegan/vegetarian. They actually use fish sauce on the mango salad that is part of this dish. Most of their other “veggie” dishes have fish sauce and shrimps too.

We ordered “Vegan and Zen”, veggie pad thai and veggie Tomyum noddle soup. After we ordered, the manager came to our table to let us know about the fish sauce and shrimps. He said he would ask the chef to cook them differently, i.e. without the fish sauce and shrimps. Well, the cold rolls were ok. The pad thai was nothing like pad thai. It was tasteless. We had to ask for soy sauce to make it “tasty”. Since they couldn’t make vegetarian Tomyum soup, they use water (with salt?) to cook the noodle soup. The noodle soup did have a lot of vegetables though.

I don’t think I’ll go back to this restaurant again.
