Some friends and I went to an Italian restaurant named The Olive Press for lunch a few days ago. The Olive Press is located in Oakville, a 45-minute drive west of Toronto. I didn’t know about this restaurant but one of my friends had been here before. She thought it was good so we decided to check it out.
We arrived at noon and the restaurant was not crowded at all. There were plenty of parking spaces behind the restaurant. We were led to a table by the window and within 2 minutes, our server arrived. He was very friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks, which arrived quickly. It took us about 15 minutes to decide on what to order as they had quite a lot of options for vegetarians. We ended up ordering 2 appetizers, 1 pizza and 2 pasta.
For appetizers, we ordered tomato bruschetta and spinach & artichoke dip. I loved the spinach & artichoke dip. It was served with pasta chips. My friends thought the chips were a bit oily but I thought they were fine. We all loved the bruschetta. For pizza, we ordered the quattro formaggi, which was very “cheesy”. It was good but a bit salty for my taste. We also ordered the mushroom ravioli and spicy penne puttanesca. The spicy penne puttanesca wasn’t very spicy. It was good but I didn’t like the olives. I loved the mushroom ravioli! I’ll definitely order the ravioli again next time. The portions were quite ample.
Too bad their dessert menu was quite small. They had several tarts, a cheesecake and the homemade tiramisu. I’m not a “tart person” so those tarts were out. My friend recommended the homemade tiramisu so we decided to share one. I thought it was ok but my friends seemed to love it.
Overall, we liked the restaurant. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was very casual. We will definitely come back again.
